Green Cross Australia is the Australian affiliate of Green Cross International,
founded by President Mikhail Gorbachev

Green Cross is all about catalysing a change in values, and we can’t do that without partners.
Queensland Partners
Green Cross Australia was born from a bipartisan partnership between the Premier of Queensland Anna Bligh and the Lord Mayor of Brisbane Campbell Newman.
Together they provided the seed funding to open our small office in Brisbane City Hall, to hire our two first permanent staff members and to inspire the involvement of our Board of Directors and Advisory Panel, who together have created Green Cross.
We are grateful for the funding, strategic and personal support offered by dozens of Brisbane City Council staff and especially the CitySmart team who share a vision for making Brisbane a global leader in sustainability. We are also grateful for support from key Queensland Government Ministers:
Brisbane Festival partnered with Green Cross International to bring Mikhail Gorbachev to Australia. This partnership continues to grow through Lyndon Terracini and the good people behind the Brisbane Festival and the Riverfestival. The 2008 Riverfestival will open with Green Cross’ People’s Assembly.
Griffith University sponsored President Gorbachev’s Brisbane visit and have helped Green Cross grow from an idea to an opportunity to catalyse change. Griffith University established Australia's first School of Environmental Studies 30 years ago, and since then they have provided national leadership in climate adaptation research. Green Cross shares the view that by engaging with the consequences of climate change, Australians can take measures today to mitigate future impacts.
Partners involved in the People’s Assembly
Some amazing individuals, organisations and volunteers have helped Green Cross to take on the challenge of inspiring a major gathering using the well-established methodology of a European style Consensus Conference. Our thanks go to the amazing leaders and organisations involved in our Steering Committee.
The People’s Assembly will be funded largely by some of Australia’s leading philanthropic foundations. We cannot publicly thank individuals and organisations from the grant making community because the funding process has not yet concluded.
We nevertheless wish to offer a big thanks to people in leadership roles who have taken a strong interest in the issues we are addressing and the way in which we are approaching them. You know who you are!
