Green Cross Projects

Australians face a dilemma. We contribute the most to greenhouse emissions and yet we stand to lose the most. Our projects expose the human suffering that environmental destruction causes. Through compassion and education Green Cross is turning concern into action. Find out more about the projects:

Green Lane Diary

Where better to start educating and inpiring children to make green choices with the Green Lane Environmental Diary? Green Cross Australia is piloting the program with 10,000 students from 400 QLD schools in 2010.

Build it back green

Green Cross Australia knows how devistating extreme weather disasters can be. However it also provides us with an opportunity to rebuild green - in order to reduce the greenhouse cycle for future generations.

Extreme Weather Heroes

Australia’s dry terrain and massive coastline expose us to severe storms, floods and fires. Get prepared. Become an Extreme Weather Hero.

Climate Resilience

Warmer oceans and hotter temperatures mean our Pacific and Timor-Leste neighbors confront water shortages, rising tides, shifting rainfall patterns and the risk of more intense severe weather events. Green Cross Australia is influencing Australia’s overseas aid program to build community resilience and protect fragile ecosystems as the planet warms.

AGEE

GCA recently participated in the AGEE which brings together disaster managers and environmentalists from developed and developing countries to exchange ideas and experiences on global environmental emergency response issues.

The National People's Assembly 2008

Green Cross led a citizen’s conference in 2008 to shape Australia’s overseas aid program because our nation needs to address the humanitarian consequences of climate change impacts such as warming oceans, rising seas and more intense severe weather events. Citizens can and should shape national climate change policy and with excellent independent briefing, democracy is a powerful policy development agent. Learn more about the issues, process and results.

Green Schools

Kevin Rudd has proposed investing massively in the nation's schools, spending $14.7 billion over the next three years on libraries, multi purpose hass, science and language laboratories as well as general refurbishments at all of the country's 9540 public and private primary and secondary schools.

Solar Future

The planet's population is expected to grow from 6 billion to 9 billion over the next 50 years. By 2050, we will need twice as much power as we use today. Unless this power comes from renewable sources, the planet’s climate could get much hotter.

Water Treaty

"The right of every human being to safe drinking water and basic sanitation should be recognized and realized." Mikhail Gorbachev, was featured in The New York Times July 16 2010, as the United Nations prepares for a historic vote.

UN Watercourses Convention

Poor and uncoordinated river management is degrading many of the massive river systems that span continents. This is devastating ecosystems and also provoking conflicts.

Food for Thought - Cuba

Green Cross Australia explores the link between peak oil, food and climate change with Cuban Permaculture Environmentalist Roberto Perez and finds out what this means for Australia and Australian policy with Ian Dunlop.

Food for Thought - US

Green Cross Australia explores the role and position of the new United States Special Envoy for Climate Change Todd Stern and what this will mean for the US, and the rest of the world, in the future?
