Green Cross Australia is the Australian affiliate of Green Cross International,
founded by President Mikhail Gorbachev

Our energy consumption is putting people’s lives at risk.
Not many people realise that volunteer organisations in Australia are already dealing with effects of climate change.
Here are few examples of how Aussies are lending a hand:
SES
Climate change causes more extreme weather conditions and is linked to both increased flooding and droughts. With more severe floods the SES will be called in more frequently to help evacuate residents and rescue people who get stranded
Red Cross
Extreme weather conditions like those witnessed with Hurricane Katrina can wreak havoc with residential communities. The Red Cross provides food, shelter and emotional support for those affected by extreme weather.
Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade
Increasing surface temperature and lengthening periods of drought in Australia are raising the fire danger in Australia. With large areas of dry grass and bushland rural communities will face a growing risk of losing their homes. The Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade will be there to help.
Surf Life Saving Clubs
Cyclones and severe storms whip our surf into a frenzy creating dangerous conditions for swimmers. With climate change our coastlines will become more dangerous and Surf Life Saving Clubs will have more rescues on their hands.
St John's
St John Ambulance Australia volunteers provide a range of important community services across the country. 12,631 volunteers - the backbone of St John Ambulance Australia - provide the majority of 1,341,510 hours of community services.
